Felix stumbled out of the chronopod, mind reeling. He glimpsed a face, sunken and lost, as it vanished into the agitated space of the laboratory.

Frayed thoughts found traction … and he remembered.

Felix rushed for the kill switch. The air trembled in anticipation of the gathering pulse and he realised — in that dreadful, recurring moment — that he would never reach it.
